a black fellow with a bamboo. I was a hundred and odd yards from the black man, who was close to the jill, near a flock of sheep on the same side with Ussari. He rose up afterwards. He was, I think, about 200 yards from the village. the bamboo was a kind of walking-stick about as thick as my three fingers. I was well acquainted with Russel, who lay in the next cot to me. I was in haste to go home, & did not stay to observe any particular thing or persons. The black man seemed to be rising, when he got the blow. He well with it & seemed rising after. Before that day I had no acquaintance with any but Russel. I am of the 6th Battalion. Russel & Donevan came last season.
