He then in the presence of Righton the jailer deld to the Court a written charges in the following words.
Mr. Robert Reshton Keeper of the Goal of Calcutta took me (assisted by a force armed with Clubs) down into the Compound the Goaler caused double Irons to be put on me and had me beat with great cruelty, not satisfied with such conduct he confined me in a room depriving me of every necessary whatever to the danger of, my life, being then in a very bad state of health. The above happened on the 6th of Oct: 1786 about the hour of seven O’Clock of the night.
