Ramnaut.
Mr. Newman, Moved that Ramnaut might be continued in custody untill the next Sessions, and not discharged at this Gaol Delivery. He said he was a Decoit, that is a Publick Robber; that he had been as such confined in the Harranbaury and was released on the Habeas Corpus on which the Prisoners sent thither by Mr. Mills had been discharged. That since that time Ram Naut had hired a house in Calcutta where he lived, and kept it shut all day but in the night it was open for the reception of the Decoits who have lately infested this Town, and who used to assemble there and go out to rob, and he used to have a share of what they got by those Robberies. Mr. Newman produced three affidavits of this import. They were intituled according to my direction, thus, β€œIn the Supreme Court of Judicature at Fort William in Bengal.”
