1794. Sessions. [Tuesday] April 1st

I know the prisoner, and in May 1790 he came one morning to the garden, where I lived, & said He had a note for 800 & odd rupees, & showed me a Bengal note; he added, I am a poor man & cannot afford to pay costs; I hear your master is an attorney & shall be obliged to you, if you will take me to him. I told him to go with me: he went. Ramrooder had before said to me at the garden, that, if Mr. Geraud could recover the money, he would give Mr. Geraud 290 & odd rupees. I introduced him to my master, & repeated what the prisoner had said to me. Mr. [ILL] asked me if I knew him: I answered, He came to me this morning: I knew nothing of him before. A boy and a tall Moorman were with Him.
