Custom Master.

There was a Plea of Not Guilty, and a Justification, intended to be under the right of the Company to seize, by their Custom Master, all Rice Landed within the Limits of the Town and Factory of Calcutta and Fort William. The Notice of Justification was faulty in many respects, particularly in the end, stating that the Rice was seized and Detain’d “for the Purpose aforesaid” without stating for what purpose: And there was another fault in stating that the Duty was collected for time immemorial by the Person intituled to the Revenues of Bengal Bahar and Orissa, whereas (as Impey remark’d) no One Person has been for time immemorial intituled to the Revenues of all the three Provinces, and
