I have known the defendant twelve years: he has been, since I knew him, as diwan of the Company’s export warehouse. I have known him [much?] about many respectable men, Mr. Dacres, Mr. Grant, Mr. Bebb & Mr. Taylor. As a member of the board of revenue I had occasion to him: he bought a taalluk a few years ago, & attended me on the subject of his taalluk. He speaks & understands well for a native of Bengal.
