The Jurors of Our Lord the King taking into Consideration the Observations made to them from the Bench on the inadequacy of the present Police Establishment to the great object of bringing to Justice all offenders against the Publick Peace – Present
That they do not see the Expediency of employing military guards for the purpose of attaining that object, being of opinion that the present Establishment if conducted with Ability, Diligence & Integrity, is fully adequate to the purposes of its Institution.
That while in this instance they differ in opinion with the learned Judge who delivered the charge (and for whose Wisdom they feel great Deference) they perfectly agree with him in thinking that Some salutary alterations in the present system of Police are absolutely necessary for the better Defence of Preservation of the Persons and Property of the Inhabitants of this Town.
