Hurryharain Sworn
I live at Debra about a coss from Dynapore. I do not knw the home of the deceased; nor did I see any native beaten. I know Asoopoor. I saw no shepherd sheering sheep. I was a witness to Serdaram’s declaration, but made no declaration of my own.

Russel’s Defence.
Hastings struck a black man. I am accused through the spight of Hastings and Grant.

Donevan’s Defence
There was a quarrel between Hastings and Grant. Hastings broke Grant’s head: I said I would give Grant satisfaction. Hastings struck the black man with a large bamboo, & Ryan struck him with a hook. I interposed; and I knocked Hastings down for striking Grant, & Hastings accuses me from spight & it is a plot against me by Hastings, Ryan, and Ashford. One black man I did strike with a stick, which I wrested from him; but the man in the jill was struck by Hastings and Ryan.

John Dury sworn.
A few days after I returned from the hospital to the barracks at Dynapore between 8 & 9 at night, I met Wm Hastings, with a shirt or cloth in his hand, & asked me if I would partake of the liquor, which that would fetch. I sd no, I will avoid your company. He sd why? I sd He knew best, it was on account of the prisoners at the main guard, Russel, Donevan, & others He tapped me on the shoulder, drew me aside, and said,
