The mark, my initials are in my own hand. I found no entry in the general register, correspond with this certe in the particulars. What I now look at (Thos Smith) I conceive to be an imitation of the hand of Francis Smith, who was then an assistant in my office, whose business it was to authenticate on the certificate that it had been registered. He had been so employed from 1788 till June 1790. The assistant name is usually signed near that place. I believe I delivered it to Mr. Jackson: it is now in the same state.

It was marked by me at the Courthouse, some days after Mr. Mee gave it me. It had been, I think, all the time before, in my possession. I cannot very positively swear, that A is the same paper.
