9th or 10 Assin) says that in Assin last he was summoned by the Defts, that going to the Cutcherry he saw Kissenpersaud (the now Plf) Bad Ullah & Jeetoo in Custody, [by?] Imaum Buksh & Feizun raur as complts – From the Beng: office he went before Defts & there, Im: B. & Feizun said they had settled the [matter?] & wod pay the costs, were upon Davychurn abused them & said “Banchute if you have settled between you why did you make the complt.” – to [which] they replied “if that’s the case, -- they took us to Gocul Sean’s house and beat us much.” Mr. Motte took down these words.
They said they’d no witnesses. Mr. Maxwell (by Davychurn’s interpretation) – “Go to the place where the fray happened & there you will find [ILL] you swear for them.
Witness then relates the order for confinement of Plf & Jeeto – their offer to give bail -- & refusal by Defts. – Wts was carried to the Cutcherry next day, saw Plf & Jeetoo carrying down crying for Justice & offering to bring witnesses on Monday, wts was told that they were impert. Fellows to employ an atty & were to have 20 lashes each; they were then brought back. That wts might see their backs &c Mr. Maxwell said look these are your people see how they are [punished?].
