Third Witness for the King
John Knight. – I am a Drummer in the sixth European Battalion in the Company’s Service. The prisoner John Baddaford is a Corporal in the same Battalion.
I knew the woman that he is charged to have killed, but I did not know her name except that I have heard the prisoner call her Mauggey.
On the thirteenth of June last between seven and eight at night, I was sitting on a Cot in the European Barrack at Deinapoor, when I saw the prisoner come along from the other end of the Barrack, walking as steadily as at any time, and leisurely.
I did not take notice as he came along, whether he had anything in his hand or no. I think he had his arms crossed and each hand under the opposite arm. [shewing how.] I did not see anything in his hand but he might have something in his hand which I did not see.
I saw him go up to the woman who sate on a low seat (some wood) and give make several stabs at her with a drawn Bayonet. I saw him take it from under his left arm, but I did not see that
it
