was Sancars. I sometimes played there for a rupee or half a rupee; but I did not always play. I saw Goordiyal, Occur Sain, and Sancar collect the lawl, or share of the winnings; it was a paisa in every rupee. This lawl is always collected by the keeper of a gaming house, not by any of the gamesters, who frequent it. This is my reason for believing, that they kept the house jointly; but I do not know it certainly. The keeper of the house is the keeper of the bank (Fer) but he hires the house of another if it be not his own; another house I speak of was Sancar I had been at the house twice; and lost or won two rupees, when I played, but I played only once.
