The Munshi asked me “Why I seized Gurdiyal,” & I produced the Summons. He read it, & threw it down, & (on my picking it up,) he said “you haramz’adeh, how come you to seize Gurdiyal? Do you not know that he is my man?” (then turning to his own people) “This man is a haramz’adeh, I suppose he is a thief come to rob the house by might: call a constable to take him up & confine him in the guard.” He then ordered his people (no sepa’hi’s coming) to turn me out of the house; & they did so. I went to inform Mr. Motte, but he was not at home. I had been dragged & pushed & kicked, when I was carried in the to the house; but, until I was in the courtyard, & the door of the gateway, was shut I did not let Gurdiyal go.
