Fines on behalf of the Crown who gave authority and directions to Mr. Johnson as an Attorney of the Court to do such business, as Mr. Johnson now did by the direction of the Court. Mr. Johnson in the same conversation also told me, that the [first considerable sum of the nature of a fine which came to the hand of Mr. Prichard then clerk of the Crown was the penalty of a recognizance five thousand rupees: that that sum did-not remain in the hand of Mr. Prichard at the time of Mr. Prichard death; but had been paid into the hand of Sir Elijah Impey; but that he Mr. Johnson could not trace that sum to the hand of Sookmoy Roy who was Sir Elijah Impey’s banyan nor did Mr. Johnson know what was become of the money; but he knew the money never came to the hand of him Mr. Johnson as clerk of the Crown]
