The present Defendant Mr. Barretto is one of the Richest Portuguese Merchants in Bengal, and a Man of very good character, but whether presuming on his Wealth or his good character I do not know, he has been the leader and has set on his Dependants, most cruelly to beat, and most ignominiously to treat Mr. Ducas, who is in every respect except riches infinitely superior to Mr. Barretto.
