1777. Sessions. [Wednesday] Dec. 24.
And at the side was written “Sessions of Oyer and Terminer and Gaol Delivery” and they were all titled “The King against Ramnaut” and no objection was taken to this title, but I do not know that it was observed, however I still on consideration think the title right. For in the Session we are still the Supreme Court of Judicature, and therefore I do not think it necessary to write the stile of the Court of Oyer and Terminer and Gaol Delivery more at large, but only mark it at the side to shew in what department of the Court the affidavit is made, as we have the words, “Plea Side” or “Court of Pleas” or “In Equity” or “Admiralty Court” on affidavits, according to the use that is to be made of them. but perhaps it would have done equally well to have intitled the affidavits in the Stile of the Session stating it at length with the names of Justices, being now only Impey, Chambers and Hyde, and the time place and district for which it is holden.
The Court made an order that he, Ramnaut, should be detain’d, unless he gave security for his good behaviour till next Session himself in Four Hundred Thousand Rupees, with two sureties each in two hundred Thousand Rupees.
After this there were two Indictments tried.
