That Mr. Law as Chief of the Province of Bahar thought it his duty to interfere to prevent such a disgrace to an Officer of Justice as to have him brought down under arrest to Calcutta: and therefore told Savory, he and another Gentleman would be bail for the two defendants who were actually taken, but would not be bail for the other Defendants: Savory said he had orders from the Sheriff to take bail in the form the bond stood for all the Defendants, and if bail were not given in that form he would carry the two Defendants to Calcutta as the warrant required: That therefore Mr. Law and the other Gentleman became bail for all the Defendants.
