Ashford near the two natives; nor was Hasting there, as I could see. I know him very well, and, had he been there, I should have seen him. I left the two prisoners behind me, and Ashford also was behind me. I ran fast to the cantonments. Russel overtook me on the road, & only said there had been a fray. I saw no woman, where the blow was given. I did not see the body, that was brought to the cantonments. I had subsequent conversation with Donevan. I and all of us, I believe, had such bambus, as I have described. I had a shirt, & jacket, and my trowzers on. I fell, above half a mile, from the village, in my haste to run away, after the blows given, and, bursting the waistband of my breeches, I took them off to tie time, but I had a white jacket on.
