enter’d also in his book that Eighty Rupees thirteen annas, and three Pice, were paid for Paunchatra, or Fees, demanded by the Officers of the Cutcherry, as of right, and that the remainder which made up the sum of Five Hundred and Five Rupees, that is, about Twenty Five Rupees, were a present to the Buxey and other Officers of the Cutcherry.
Impey. The whole of these 505 Rupees must be disallow’d. The four hundred is clearly a Bribe. The Twenty Five is a present to Officers of a Court, which also I call a Bribe. The Eighty demanded as fees are not proved to have been due, therefore we must take it they were not. I have heard and read that these Courts were to do Justice without Fees.
The Judgment was for the Sum that was due, reckoning this five hundred and five Rupees as not paid, being im
