Mr. Newman, As Advocate for the Company moved for an Attachment against Taje Ram, One of the Peons employ’d by the Sheriff as a Bailiff; Hyder Ram, the Sircar of the Sheriff; And the Jemmatdar of the Sheriffs Peons.
The Motion was grounded on affidavits sworn before Sir E. Impey at Chittagong, and stated that Twelve Rupees had been extorted by Taje Ram, who said he was order’d by Hyder Ram and by the Jemmatdar to take that sum from every defendant before they let him go, on signing the Bail Bond.
A Rule was made that an attachment should issue against the three against whom the motion was made, unless cause were shewn in four days to the Contrary; and that they should answer the matters of the affidavits.
