In defence of the Crime for which I here stand Prosecuted, I have to inform the Court I Expect nothing more or less then a Candid and Just Trial, and to declare that the Undermentioned is a fair and Just Statement of my present case.
On the night preceeding the present affair for which I here stand Accountable – Mr. Quartermain the Plaintive came to my Quarters about 8 Oclock and abused me by using the most approbious Expressions that can be well mentioned and told me the Prisoner at the Bar to be upon my Guard; and then striking the table with his fist swore he would have his Revenge upon me, and knowing I had never lept his Company or Injured him in any shape, and knowing him to be a verry indifferent sort of person, and being Conscious I had never given him ill Language – Mr. Quartermain did not come any more that night, nor till the Evening of the day following about [ILL] o’Clock – this Evening that Prisoner was verry ill having a Blister on his Right Breast and being much troubled with a pain in his breast and the fever had [ILL] Prisoner to his Couch to take a little Repose. Doctor Gibbs [ILL] the gentleman who prescribed medicines for the Prisoner [ILL] the [ILL] – Mr. Quartermain forced himself into the Prisoner’s Quarters by forcing the Door open and Entering [with?] the words you villain pussy rascall and Scoundrel and asked the Prisoner what he beat his servant for, and at the Same time forcing his fist against the Prisoners mouth, and told him he would brake every Bone in his [ILL] The Prisoner told him he might Easily do that for that [ILL] could hardly stand, or he should not tell him so – the Prisoner told him likewise that he never had beat his servant and if Mr. Quartermain had Reason to think [ILL]
