I know the prisr & have known him ever since he came into the [Brigades?]. The girl, named Moggy who lived with Serjt Drogharty, was of the same Company with me. On the 13th of last june I was on [ILL] on the [ILL] about 10 mins after 8 or the [ILL] I was set sentry over the prisr who was then brot there. I had not seen the girl alive since 2 o’clock that day: a file of European soldiers brot him. After the irons were put on him he lay on the cot saying nothing, but looking quite wild he appeared to me out of his senses. He lay on his back. I put sevl questions to him, but he gave me no answer. During the two [hours?], while I was sentry, he lay silent, but his eyes were open & looked wild. At 4 in the morning i was again set sentry over him: he was lying in the same posture, when I then saw him. His eyes were open: I spoke to him but he gave me no answer till about 5 o'’lock, he seemed to wake, & asked me why he was brot thither. I asked, if he did not remember
