ask’d for a Bottle of Orange Shrub. I gave them a bottle, they drank it among them, all four, & then they went out of my shop and stood in the road. I ask’d the other European to pay for the Bottle of Orange Shrub; not the prisr but the person to whom I had delivered it. He abused me, & there the prisr: struck me on the [ILL] middle finger with a stick. I thereupon made a great noise, and then the man to whom I had given the shrub, made a thrust at me with a knife, which I endeavour’d
