1780. 4 Term. [Friday] Nov. 17.
The Ordinance.
Mr. Newman, Advocate for the Company, inform’d the Court, that he was authorised by the Governor-General and Council to undertake that they would pass an Ordinance and present it to the Court next Term, making alterations in many Points objected to in the present Ordinance, which alterations he stated.
Mr. Davis, Answer’d that his Clients had not had sufficient time to assemble and give him any joint instructions to withdraw his opposition, on this undertaking, but those of them who he had had an opportunity of speaking with, were very far from being satisfied with the alterations undertaken to be made.
The Petitions against the Ordinance were then read, being two from the European Inhabitants, and one from the Hindoo Inhabitants of the Town.
Mr. Davies, Argued the objections in a most elegant and able speech.
