M. told him that he had declined putting him in possession because he conceived that he had no right.
On the 4th Sept. (11 days before he resigned) he urged Col M to give him an answer, bec if he did not he should be obliged to resign the post he was suffered to hold & return to Beng.
On the 15th he writes that having recd no Answer & having bn refused pmission to B he resigned the office.
