Exh: No 6 – from Deft to Do
d. 21 Nov. 1788. This letter was read for the purpose of proving that the publick servants of the Company whom Mr. D: had left behind him at Moidapur were considered by him as his own agents. He expresses much concern at having heard “that the Ouleh left by him had fallen into MR. F’s displeasure”, and adds “I trust to your caution to fill the natives with ideas of their dismission, or my total removal. You must know it may be attended with the worst consequences.”
In a postscript he adds “I must confess I apprehend Mataub Roy may endeavour to influence the Zemindars against me & my people; this I trust you to guard against.
