Exh: No 7 is another letter from Deft Dawson to I. Fendal, without any date but Wednesday: It is read to shew that Nilmuny Miter was not a servt of the Compy but of Mr. D: & that Sat Cowri Batacharje, Gocul Muckerji &c were also his servts or agents.
After informing Mr. F: that he has occasion to examine Nilmunny M. on accot of a charge of recy 500 Rs sd to have been pd to Nilmunny – he adds “you need not be under no apprehensions because Neelmoonie’s name is not in the list of Servants my friends have taken the trouble to prove that he acts as Naib on part of the Duan’s Son Tarrachurn Meter; & if you are question’d you can with propriety say that as you cou’d not form any opinion relative to how long I might be detained in Calcutta you did not chuse to throw the offices into confusion by a change of those in charge.”
In a subsequent paragraph he says
“We have clearly made appear that Saut Cowrie Batacharje, Gocul Muckerjee, &c who it was said recd the money, cou’d not, as they were not at the places mentioned at the time it was asserted the money was paid.”
