the state of the man: they brot word he was speechless, & I sent him to the hospital on that day, Wednesday the 1st June. Having heard that Blondel or Bromley was employed by Mr. W. Townsend Jones, I wrote to Mr. Jones telling him that a person in his service had used a man very ill. on Thursday I received the letter which I now produce: I received it from a man, whom I took to be Mr. Jones’s servant. I sent repeatedly every day to inquire at the hospital how John did, & on Saturday, Dr. Johnson wrote me word he was dead. I wrote to Mr. Hall the coroner & informed Dr. Johnson, that the inquest would sit the next morning. I neither certainly know who it was that delivered the letter to me, nor who it was that wrote it.
