Mr. Larkins
Continued
On the following day a person came from Mr. F reguiring an answer to the letter A, to which I had before only sent salam: that person spoke personally to me; he said, before Mr. Chavet, that he was Mr. F’s Jematdar: I then believe and now believe that he was so. He said his name was Matee-ullah
(Mateeulllah appears)
That was the man. (looking at him). To the best of my recollection I told the man to tell his master “a salam was the only answer he should have from me.” I spoke in Moors. I look at Ex. E. I recd this letter on Wednesday 25 Aug 1790, after the council broke up, & to the best of my remembrance the same Jemaatdar (Mateeullah) brot it to me. Read. I look at the enclosure (G.1.) & to the best of my remembrance it is the same, which was enclosed in letter E.
