There is in my office a Mr. Fair, who attends to [ILL] evidce on the proson. I had suspected him of giving intelligence to Mr. Fenwick; before I recd letters from Mr. Macinley I desired Fair to stay at home till I was satisfied concerning his conduct & from the information contained in letters from Macinley & from Fair, I was convinced that my suspicion was unjust. What I have just mentioned happened in June & July; about the 31st March, Mr. Macinley called on me, & removed the suspicion, which had arisen on the 23rd March concerning Mr. Fair: on that occasion I had not suspended Mr. Fair.
