He sd generally, that Mr. Larkins had abused him, & taken liberties, which he would not look over, with his character I desired to know the particulars: he said, Larkins had abused him in Mr. Hay’s office by calling him an incendiary, & saying, that if Mr. Fenwick was dying in the street for a draught of water, he would not give it him. I offered to wait on Mr. L & ask him if he had used those expressions, &, if he shd deny them, I asked Mr. F what authority I shd produce. Fenwick sd he had his intelligence from a young gentleman in one of the offices whom he could not bring forward. I reprobated very strongly the wishing me to act on such an authority, & after some conversation, I returned the letter to Mr. F. & desired him to destroy them.
