My desire motive for making or dictating the letter U was not to cover myself or any other man.
I do not know how Mr. Fenwick knew of Mr. L’s having the account from the committee, except [ILL] on what is under his own hand. I never in my life said to Mr. Fenwick that Mr. Larkins was his enemy, & had said He was a rascal for encouraging De Mello, Never in my life did I say to Mr. Fenwick, that I was authorized by Mr. Larkins to tell him that, if He would withdraw his letters containing charges, & write a letter for that purpose all would be settled. I never had any conversation with Mr. Fenwick or Mr. Brown about the mode of writing that letter.
