John Brownrigg sworn.
Sometime in 1790 when I was clerk to Mr. Jones the attorney, one Ramcaunt Paul, now dead, with anor native, came to me with Bengalee papers. Ramcaunt sd in English “the man with me has complained to Mr. Motte of another man for detaining property (goods), wch he the plf claimed under a will. And He Ramcant produced a paper, wch he sd was the original, and anor which he said was the coy. Not knowing Bengalee, I cannot swear that A is one of them: it is like one of them. I think The other man was the prisoner, I am very positive: he was often with me, Ramcaunt desired me to write to Mr. Motte. I heard no more of it, till inquiries were made by Mr. Brownrigg. What I have said was, I think, before (15 Aghran) 28 Nov. 1790.
