John Williams Sworn.
I am a seafaring man & I knew Chamru Sarang. I was sitting at my door (sometime in September) and saw the Prisoner followed by Chamru and by a great number of people. Smith retreated as fast as he could, defending himself with a drawn cutlass. I did not hear anything said: I was too far off. When they came abreast of my door Chamru seized Smith & threw him down against a large tree. Chamru had nothing in his hand. As soon as Smith fell I went to his assistance. The other men with Chamru had large sticks & bamboos; & one of them was going to strike Smith on the head, when I ran & separated them. The prisoner had called out murder! help!
