If you have the Charter in Court I beleive you will find on reading it, that the Court is impower’d to punish the absence of Witnesses, not only by fine and imprisonment, but by punishment not extending to life or limb, which includes Whipping Pillory and the like corporal punishments.
It is necessary for the Dignity and Power of this Court, that no Witness should be kept away. I wish the Charter to be read that we may know whether.
