1777. Sessions. [Monday] Dec. 8th

me though he does not now recollect it. But I had also a case of hats for Men of my own on board. Some of the passengers wanting hats, I had my case of hats open'd. I had a box taken out of my Chest and carried to Sir Charles Hudson, I never saw that box open. If any things besides hats were in that box, I suppose they were put in by a Man who has done all he can to injure me, and the same man has raised many false reports to my prejudice, and particularly, that I was barricaded in my Cabbin and threatned to kill any Man that attempted to seize me. A man has said during the voyage that if his oath would hang me, I should be hanged, and that he would swear if it would hang me. (He was asked by Impey whether the man who said so was one of the witnesses who had sworn against him) The man who said so is not any of the Witnesses, but he is connected with all of them. It is very well known I did not go to sea for a livelihood. I have a fortune in my own Country sufficient to maintain me like a gentleman. I had considering my station.
