I have the honor to enclose you Copy of the resolution of the Honble Governor General and Council appointing me to succeed to the several Duties & offices filled by Mr. Griffith in the Detachment of the Bengal Army serving under General Goddard & now apply to you for the full execution of that order. The offices held by Mr. Griffith & the duties performed by him will best appear from the enclosed Copy of a letter from that Gentleman. Of these I have hitherto been only put in possession of the Magazine of Grain & hired Cattle for Carriage & the regulating the prices in the Bazars. The providing & feeding the Hongle Company’s Draft & Carriage Cattle has been held by the Captain Dalhousie Watherton; Upon my claiming this General Goddard did not think proper to remove Captain Watherton who had been appointed & had taken charge from Mr. Griffith before the arrival of the order for my appointment, General Goddard seeming to think that it was not the intention of the Board at the time I was appointed to remove
