The Government at first held forth to the Natives expectations of protection in carrying on the Trade in Salt. Afterward they took away the Callaries or Salt Works from the Natives and took them into the hands of the Company. In the year 1765 the Native Merchants were at liberty to Trade in Salt.
Afterward the Exclusive Society was form’d for the Salt Trade.
Then again by Orders from England the Trade was laid open
