1778. Sittings. [Thursday] July 30th.

Twenty Thousand Rupees of Mr. James Grant, and had executed an English Bond to Mr. Grant for that Money. When he gave the Bond to Mr. Grant, Mr. Grant order’d Radacaunt Chuckerbutty who was present and was Mr. Grant’s Banyan, to pay the 20,000 Rupees to Sissoram; and Radacunt said to Sissoram, come to my Lodging and give me a Receipt in Mr. Grant’s name and I will pay the Money.
This Sir Robert Chambers and I, agreed was sufficient acknowledgement that he had so much money of Mr. Grant’s in his hands, and from the time of that promise it was so much money in his hands received for the use of the Plaintiff.
Tilghman, Contended strongly that this could not be recover’d on this Count, but my brother Chambers and I adhered to our opinion.
