Finding the injury my constitution received in my Journey to Naugpore is not likely to be repaired during my stay in India I am desirous of returning to Europe and therefore request your permission to resign the service of the Honourable Company and to return to Europe.

This letter General Stibbert did not transmit to the Governor General and Council, and Colonel Murray says that, to the best of his recollection, he himself returned it to Mr. Thomas. Colonel Murray also admits that as soon as he heard of the Letter received from the Plaintiff by General Stibbert, he sent a notice thereof to Mr. Bristow, who came so immediately with the charges that he thinks he could not have received the note at his own house.
