1779. 3 Term. [Tuesday] July 20.
Order by which they meant in effect to Plunder a Purgunnah, and these Burcundasses and Peons were to assist in so doing but it did not appear to me the Plaintiffs knew of any fraud.
The Defendant had given to the Defendants Plaintiffs a Bengal Promissory Note or rather a draft on a Banker in Calcutta for the amount of the claim of all of them togather for their Wages, but when they came to Calcutta, they found the Note was only made to cheat them for there was no such Banker in Calcutta.
There was Judgment for the Plaintiff in all the Causes, though in three of the Six, he had appear’d by Mr. Duncan his Attorney, and therefore might have made a Defence but none was attempted, and the several Plaintiffs proved their Debts, one for another.
