Hegira, the present year of the Hegira being 1132, which difference probably arrised from the Bengal year having been calculated from the time they first began to use this Ora, by the Solar year, and the Mahommeden year having been calculated both before and since that time, by the Lunar year, twelve revolutions of the Moon to each year. This makes neither of these Calendars agree with the Original Difference between the Epoch of Hegira, and the year of Christ, for the computation of the Hegira began in the year of Christ 622, and now the Mahommedan year differs 647 years, and the Bengal year differs 593 from the year of Christ. The Bengal Ora used for Religious purposes is call’d the Ora or year of Bickrommgit, and is reckon’d from a Rajah of that name, or some thing like it, whose Capital Town was beyond the Province of Oude, and whose dominions extended at least as far this ways as Raja-maul, whether it included all Bengal or not. At Raja-Maul an inscription has been lately found dated in the thirty third year of Bickromagit.
